For centuries, the construction methods of the Great Pyramid of Giza have remained one of history's greatest engineering mysteries. Built around 2560 BCE during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, this monumental structure stood as the tallest man-made building on Earth for over 3,800 years.

Recent archaeological discoveries have shed new light on how ancient Egyptians accomplished this feat. A team of French and Egyptian archaeologists using 3D scanning technology has identified evidence of an internal ramp system that would have been used to transport massive limestone blocks to the upper reaches of the pyramid.

This internal ramp, carved directly into the pyramid's core, would have allowed workers to pull blocks on wooden sledges through a gently sloping tunnel, eliminating the need for enormous external ramps that would have required more material than the pyramid itself.

The discovery challenges previous theories that relied on external ramps or complex lever systems. The internal ramp theory aligns better with the limited space available around the pyramid during construction and better explains how the upper chambers were built with such precision.

Over 2.3 million blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5 tons, were used in the pyramid's construction. The largest blocks, found in the King's Chamber, weigh up to 80 tons. These were transported from quarries located as far as Aswan, over 500 miles up the Nile.

The precision of the pyramid's construction continues to astound modern engineers. The base is level to within just 2.1 centimeters, and the sides are aligned to the four cardinal directions with an accuracy of within one-fifteenth of a degree.
